When almost the entire crew of Fire House 126 in Austin, Texas, is wiped out in a fertilizer storage explosion during a fire, Owen Strand of the NYFD is offered the command of the station to rebuild it with an eye for a more diverse crew than the state is typically known to encourage. Despite his early-stage cancer condition and his son's own serious troubles, Strand decides to accept the post. With his sophistication and his ideals in play, Strand assembles a seemingly motley crew of firefighters to handle the various emergencies in his operating area while living with the idiosyncrasies that go with Texas. —Kenneth Chisholm ([email protected])I enjoy all the characters they brought together. I don't care that the show has "one of each" as other people have written. It's a tv show and it's entertaining. There's comedy, sadness, some OMG moments, some mystery, and comradery and romance. So maybe the firefighting is not "by the books", but we're not watching it to become firefighters. It might not be as drama filled as the original 911,which I thoroughly enjoy and can't wait to see the new episodes, but it gets my mind off the long work day. Makes me laugh. And don't pick on the dyslexic firefighter. There are more real people in this world that need alternative ways to learn because reading is difficult for them and a written test almost impossible to pass. That doesn't mean they can't learn what they need to know to do a job like firefighting. I myself prefer to see how to do something than just read about it.
