Its a strange medium monochrome in that once colour came about as a new film alternative, who would shoot in black and white? There's been a few who deliberately chose it to give a production a certain feel but most I've seen had me wishing they hadn't, not this one. Boy, does the mood and atmosphere of Righteous lend itself to monochrome. A foreboding atmosphere that lingers throughout the film that blends well with the concept of religion gone wrong and pasts that refuse to stay buried.. This won't be everyones cup of tea as there's no shootouts or car chases and is looking to delve more deeply into self pity and piety. Well shot and acted. Apart from the film itself, I was rather struck by Kate Corbetts character, so much like Betty Davis. "Baby Jane" rides again?.... It's just my opinion but if there was a biography of the life of Betty Davis, look no further than Corbett for the staring role? As they say, the "eyes" have it.
